Summer Plans | Making the most of your time off

Picture

For most students, summer comes as a relief, a chance to unwind and take a break from their hectic school-year schedules. It is also a time when many students try to further their personal and professional development by serving their community, trying internships, working summer jobs or taking classes to get a head start on the upcoming year. Summer is a chance to explore what is important to you and to learn about the world outside of the confines of your middle school, high school or college. It is valuable to use this time to read, reflect and think about your hopes and goals and how you will pursue them. If your goal is to make a lot of money, summer is a good time to lay the groundwork for achieving that goal as well as a good time to examine it and come up with reasons why it is important to you. If your goal is to help others you can use the summer to reflect on that impulse and strengthen it with the wisdom, experiences and ideas of people who have thought about it deeply.

So set aside time for reading, reflecting and relaxing (it is summer vacation after all), but don’t forget to stay active, whether by working, volunteering, or pursuing something that’s important to you like sports or the arts.
